Learn to Swim for Life

Building safe, confident swimmers — one step at a time.

At Cannonvale Swim Centre, we believe learning to swim is an essential life skill that should begin early and develop with confidence over time. Our Learn to Swim program is designed for children aged 5 years and over, providing a safe, supportive and structured environment where skills are built step by step.

Our experienced and qualified swim teachers focus on developing strong foundations in water safety, technique and confidence. Through consistent, guided practice, children progress through clearly defined levels, gaining the skills they need to feel capable and secure in the water.

We understand that every child learns differently, which is why our program supports individual progression while maintaining a clear pathway. At Cannonvale Swim Centre, we work closely with families to ensure each child is supported, encouraged and given the opportunity to build skills that will stay with them for life.

Cannonvale Swim Centre offers school term lessons and school holiday intensive blocks. Lessons are approximately 30 minutes and are run in small groups of no more than 5 swimmers. All new swimmers must register and book an assessment prior to starting lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What age can my child start swimming lessons?

Children can begin swimming lessons from age 5 and up. At this stage, classes focus on building water confidence, developing fundamental skills and establishing strong technique in a supportive environment. As they progress, swimmers move through structured levels that introduce more advanced skills over time. Starting at the right stage helps build a solid foundation for long-term swimming ability, fitness and confidence in the water.

  • Do you offer adult learn to swim classes?

Yes, we welcome adults of all ages and skill levels. Whether you've never swum before or want to improve your technique, our instructors provide a safe, encouraging environment. Lessons are tailored to individual needs and goals, helping adults gain confidence and enjoy the water at their own pace. It’s never too late to learn how to swim or to build on what you already know.

  • How do I know which level is right for my child?

We assess each swimmer’s ability to determine the most suitable starting level. Our structured program includes tiered groups designed to match different skill levels, from beginners to more advanced swimmers. Instructors regularly monitor progress and recommend when it’s time to move up. If you're unsure, our friendly team is happy to discuss options and help place your child in the right group.
