Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is the adult swim squad for?

The adult squad is suitable for swimmers of varying abilities, from those returning to the water through to experienced swimmers. Sessions are designed so individuals can work at an appropriate level while still training within a group.

  • Do I need to be a strong swimmer to join?

You should be able to swim basic freestyle continuously (e.g. 25 – 50m). If you are unsure, our coaches can guide you on whether the squad or a more technique-focused option is the best starting point.

  • What is the difference between adult squad and swimming laps on my own?

Adult squad provides structured training with a clear purpose, including set distances, intervals and technique focus. Training in a group environment also creates accountability and consistency, which can be harder to achieve when swimming alone.

  • What are the benefits of training in a group?

Training alongside others provides motivation, support and encouragement. It helps maintain consistency, creates a sense of shared purpose and often leads to greater enjoyment. Many swimmers find they push themselves more and stay committed when they are part of a group.

  • What will a typical session involve?

Sessions include a warm-up, skill or technique work, and main sets focused on fitness, endurance or speed. Training is progressive and builds over time through repetition and consistency.

  • Can I join if I’m training for a triathlon or ocean swim?

Yes. Many adult swimmers use squad sessions to prepare for events. Training can support endurance, pacing and efficiency in the water.

  • Will there be coaching and feedback during sessions?

Yes. Coaches provide guidance on technique, stroke efficiency and training approach, with feedback to help you improve over time.

Adult Squad Benefits

The Adult Squad offers a great way to stay active, improve your swimming and build overall fitness in a friendly, structured environment. Sessions focus on stroke technique, endurance and breathing, allowing swimmers to develop at their own pace with guidance from experienced coaches. Whether you're looking to boost your fitness, try something new or reconnect with the water, the program is tailored to suit a variety of goals and abilities.
